The Nandankanan Zoo bear safari park spread across 4.1 hectares and built at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore, including basic infrastructure was took almost a year to commission. The bear safari is eight sloth bears would be kept in the safari park, while two will be in enclosures, The park was thrown open to the public on Date 29 December 2012.
The safari is inaugurating by Odisha's Forest and Environment Minister Bijayasri Routray. He said the authorities have been asked to put more animals in the Nandankanan zoo. The Nandankanan zoo administrators are contemplating to keep 20 bears inside the safari once the species are procured from other zoos in the country.
