One of the most enchanting terrains covered by forests of mixed deciduous nature, this sanctuary was established in 1976. It includes a 22 km long satakoshia gorge, where the Mahanadi River with monumental force cuts through the Eastern Ghats, a dazzling sight for the visitors. The area was once a natural habitat of big cats, but now rarely sighted.

A forest lodge located at the strategic place inside the sanctuary offers basic accommodation and with the special permission of the forest office, camping can also be arranged.
